EdTech Positioned for Growth in a Top Entrepreneurial City

August 8, 2016

State College has been named one of the "15 Best U.S. Cities for Entrepreneurs to Live and Launch" by Entrepreneur magazine. Through a partnership with, one of the leading online resources used for researching communities, they were able to pinpoint the best places for entrepreneurs to get the most support and launch a business in the United States. State College is already home to many tech startup companies such as Minitab, Blackboard, and InsideTrack; the Penn State EdTech Network's first co-location partner.

The Penn State EdTech Network is a vertical of Invent Penn State, a strategic initiative started by President Barron that embodies Penn State's commitment to growing the entrepreneurial ecosystem in State College. The Penn State EdTech Network is designed to create connections within and between University departments and community organizations to foster relationships amongst companies, entrepreneurs, and Penn State faculty, staff, and students.

"Technology plays a crucial and growing role in the work that Penn State does and the EdTech Network is supporting and advancing entrepreneurship within the educational technology sector," said Daren Coudriet, EdTech Network Entrepreneur in Residence. "We are focused on advancing Penn State's teaching and learning capabilities by providing resources and opportunities to promote innovation and support for edtech startups to thrive in State College."

Penn State offers office, manufacturing, and research space for partners to co-locate and the EdTech Network has already engaged with a number of leading educational technology companies and investors since its launch. With multiple events on the horizon, starting with the Invent Penn State Venture & IP Conference in October, EdTech Network members will get a front row seat to the innovation happening in and around the community. There are no application fees or obligations to become a member of the EdTech Network.
