Get Involved in the Nittany Watson Challenge

December 15, 2016

Registration is open for the Immersion Day Kickoff Event, the official start of the Penn State EdTech Network’s $100,000 Nittany Watson Challenge. The Immersion Day Kickoff provides a unique opportunity for participants to learn directly from IBM experts, meet others and form teams for the challenge, and participate in idea generation to assist in identifying Watson applications.

“IBM is excited about the Nittany Watson Challenge and also playing a key role in the Immersion Day Kickoff Event. We look forward to meeting with participants interested in learning more about IBM Watson’s amazing capabilities,” said Rich Prewitt, IBM Distinguished Engineer and Penn State University On-Campus IBMer. “Attendees of the Immersion Day Kickoff Event will also get to talk with IBM experts and explore ways that this cutting-edge technology can impact the student experience at Penn State.”

Participants will learn how IBM Watson, a cognitive technology platform, can address challenges in a way that were previously not possible. IBM experts will get into details of Watson Explorer and many of the IBM Bluemix services (including Watson APIs). Experts will also be available to answer questions about how to use the technology to create innovative solutions using the energy and power of Watson. To encourage innovation, the competition is an open challenge with the opportunity to address pre-identified challenges or define your own.

“We are excited to bring together IBM’s advanced technology and Penn State’s innovators. We expect this combination to surface great applications of IBM Watson. We are delighted to have IBM Watson staffers on hand to help participants understand how the technology can be best applied to address issues and improve the student experience here at Penn State.” said Daren Coudriet, Penn State EdTech Network Entrepreneur in Residence.

If you are innovative and want to use IBM Watson to help improve the student experience, then join us in the $100,000 Nittany Watson Challenge. The first step is to attend the Immersion Day Kickoff Event. This event will be streamed for participants unable to attend in person or those that would just like to learn more about Watson but don’t intend to participate in the Challenge. Space at the event is limited so please register as soon as possible. It is highly encouraged that attendees that want to be part of a team complete the suggested Watson Training Materials prior to attending the event.
